Komel Customizing was created in October 2002 to honor my Arabian mare who was put to sleep on October 22, 2002 because of a tumor she had on her kidney. My specialty is portrait models to honor the horses we have grown to love over the years. I also paint custom models to fit whatever you desire. Besides commission work, I enjoy painting models for myself, and especially enjoy experimenting with colors, markings, and painting techniques to find what works best while still making an attractive and realistic model. I strive for realism down to the finest details and always work off reference pictures of real horses. Each model I paint comes out as an individual, no two are ever exactly alike. My prices are very reasonable for the quality of work I provide.
In addition to customizing models, I also make model horse scaled tack. Up until now I have only made halters and bridles, but have begun to experiment with saddle making. As time permits I will make tack and experiment with new pieces, such as various saddle styles and costume pieces. I will take special orders on some tack, but only as time allows. My main specialty is model horses at this time. I have also been a collector of model horses since 1996. My collection is over 200 strong. On occasion I will have original finish models for sale, along with my custom pieces. These can be viewed in the “Sales” pages.
