My specialty at Komel Customs are portrait models. These models are painted to look like real horses, usually a person's beloved friend. I always bring every detail in the model to life. In addition to portrait models I also paint buyer choice customs. Every model is diligently prepped before painting. I sand all seams and remove logos, carve ears and hooves, repair chipped ears or split seams, and correct other minor errors such as uneven hooves or shallow nostrils. I paint my models individually. Most models I use an airbrush for the overall body color, then
hand paint details using a mixed media of pastels, acrylics, and high quality color pencils. After the model has been completed I spray several coats of a spray finish to seal and protect the model. The eyes and nostrils are glossed to give that realistic “wet” look. Hooves are also glossed at the request of the buyer. Finally I sign and date the model, either on the belly or on a hoof, depending on buyer's preference.
My prices for custom and portrait models are very reasonable. I will offer some minor resculpting at additional cost. This cost will vary depending on the amount of work provided. The prices listed below include prep work and shipping. If you do send me a previously prepped model however, I will adjust my price accordingly. I ship my models by USPS priority and include insurance and delivery confirmation. I have also added an estimated cost for the body. This will only be added on if I provide the body.

I will take custom orders at any time, however I might currently have a line up of models previously ordered. If this is the case I will paint your model as soon as the previous models are finished. To inquire about the current waitlist, please email me. Please keep in mind I take my time painting all my models to ensure they come out to the best in quality and to the highest of standards. I do try to finish them as soon as possible, and can give an estimate of the amount of time a model may take, but cannot guarantee this estimate will always be correct. If you have a deadline, such as a birthday or Christmas, please let me know and arrangements can be made to finish and ship your model before that deadline. During the process of painting your model I will send you frequent picture updates to let you know how it is going and to make sure everything looks right to you. Examples of these pictures can be viewed by checking the Galleries, following the "More Pictures" link, and then entering the "Progress" folder. I will not spray the final finish until you have informed me that everything looks good and you are happy with the model. I strive to make you happy and will go to great lengths to make your model perfect.
When requesting a model, please provide any pictures you may have that will reflect how you want the finished product to look. This is especially important for portrait models. For portrait models I request at least one picture of the horse from a side view and details about any markings. I prefer as many pictures as can be provided from all views, including close-up details of the face, markings, and any other special features. Sometimes this is not possible however, so I will take any pictures you can provide. I have also found having a copy of registration papers with illustrations of markings can be helpful. This does not need to be an official copy, just a quick photocopy at Office Depot will work for my purposes. All pictures will be sent back with the model, though I ask for permission to make copies of the photographs I can keep for future references.
If you are interested in a custom or portrait model from me, please email me for details. If you do not have a body available, please let me know what breed you are looking for and I will try to find a model that will suit your horse best. I request at least 50% payment at the start of the commission. Commission must be paid in full before completion of the model or I will hold the model until payment is received.
